Submitted Photo by Clay Farrington. Staff members from the Curator of Navy Ship Models, within the Office of the Curator of Models at the Naval Surface Warfare Center’s Carderock Division in Bethesda, Maryland work on a detailed model of the USS Newport News (CA-148). The model was transported to the Hampton Roads Naval Museum, and was lifted into place by a contingent of sailors assigned to the Ticonderoga-Class Guided Missile Cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG-64). The model, along with other artifacts, dioramas, graphics panels and interactive displays, is part of the museum’s new exhibit “The Ten Thousand Day War at Sea: the US Navy in Vietnam, 1950-1975”. The new exhibit will encompass over 4,700 square feet of their gallery, and is scheduled to open to on October 9, 2019. (US Navy Photo by Clay Farrington/Released).
