Boch, U.S. Navy (RET) visit The Lone Aviator Memorial at NAS Lemoore. The memorial honors the men and women of Naval Aviation, past, present and future. Honorees attending the Gulf of Tonkin Commemoration Event began the day by visiting the memorial. The event honored the Naval Aviators who served with courage and dignity during the Vietnam War, specifically Commander Everett Alvarez Jr., U.S. Navy (RET), who became the first American aviator shot down over Vietnam and became the 2nd longest-held prisoner of war in North Vietnam, eight-and-a-half years, during the Gulf of Tonkin Incident.
