    LEMOORE, Calif. (September 17, 2019) Honorees and guests attend a Gulf of Tonkin Commemoration event held at Naval Air Station Lemoore, which included a visit to Navy F35C jet fighter wing VFA125. The event honored the Naval Aviators who served with courage and dignity during the Vietnam War, specifically Commander Everett Alvarez Jr., U.S. Navy (RET), center, who became the first American aviator shot down over Vietnam and became the 2nd longest-held prisoner of war in North Vietnam, eight-and-a-half years, during the Gulf of Tonkin Incident.
