U.S. Marine Corps Col. Mikel Huber, commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, left, is presented the first piece of cake by Chief Petty Officer John Carino, the chief of medical homeport at Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point, during a cake cutting ceremony in honor of the U.S. Navy’s 244th birthday at the mess hall at MCAS Cherry Point Oct. 10, 2019. Naval tradition dictates that the first piece of cake is given to the guest of honor. Starting as a small fleet of privateers and growing to the largest maritime force in the world, the U.S. Navy has time and time again proven themselves to be one of the fiercest naval forces in the world.
