Col. Tim McAteer, right, commander of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, and Command Sgt. Maj. Tim Guden, senior non-commissioned officer, light the candle that represented the fallen paratroopers of the brigade during a ceremony held on May 22. There was a silent guard throughout the night to honor the 50 fallen Paratroopers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the War on Terrorism. The ceremony was held at the 82nd Airborne Division Global War on Terrorism Memorial located at the 82nd Airborne Division Museum. Officers and senior non-commissioned officers from the Brigade guarded the candle through the night in complete silence. This observance is a one of the ways that the 2BCT remembers and honors its fellow paratroopers. They may be gone but never forgotten.
