SAN DIEGO (Nov. 14, 2019) Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Monroe Suber, an apheresis technician assigned to Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD), prepares to draw blood from Capt. Devin J. Morrison, NMCSD’s executive officer, Nov. 14. Morrison donated blood in support of the Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP) at NMCSD. The 30-40-minute donation process includes completing a donor questionnaire and a brief interview to ensure the donor is a good candidate. Military members are encouraged to donate blood whenever they can, as one pint of blood can save up to three lives. The ASBP is a joint operation among military services that collects, processes, stores, distributes and transfuses blood products for service members and their families during times of peace and war. NMCSD's mission is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high quality healthcare services, and shape the future of military medicine through education, training and research. NMCSD employs more than 6,000 active duty military personnel, civilians and contractors in Southern California to provide patients with world-class care anytime, anywhere.
