Dubbed, “The worst disaster in U.S. Naval history,” the USS Indianapolis was sunk by Japanese torpedoes near the end of WWII after delivering the world’s first operational nuclear bomb. Of the 1,196 aboard, only 316 survived after floating four days at sea without supplies in shark infested waters.
