Indiana National Guard Staff Sgt. Chris McFadden serves his second year on the Panther Racing IndyCar pit crew. “The pressure of having to be accurate and precise was comparable to combat,” said McFadden, an Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran who has served more than a decade in the National Guard. He is responsible for changing the rear, left tire of the National Guard No. 4 IndyCar machine during pit stops throughout a race. “You have the same adrenaline rush and you have a mission to complete. You cannot make a mistake, your life is literally on the line when you’re in pit lane, and – ultimately – you don’t want to let your teammates down.”
