Col. Dann Carlson, 154th Wing commander, speaks to project planners, state officials and Hawaii National Guard members during a blessing ceremony Dec. 17, 2019, at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. The event was held to recognize developments of a state-of-the-art microgrid project, a component of the Pacific Energy Assurance Renewables Laboratory or PEARL. Project planners are developing a new type of power distribution station that will provide new layers of energy assurance and self-sustaining power sources to the 154th Wing. The microgrid is expected to be operational by August 2020. (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Senior Airman John Linzmeier)
