U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, South Pacific Border District Commander Col. Rafael “Pete” Pazos describes the panel installation process to Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad F. Wolf and Sen. Martha McSally in Yuma, Arizona before an event commemorating the completion of 100 miles of border barrier system along the southwest border on January 10, 2020. The Yuma 1 project spans approximately 5 miles, replacing dilapidated and outdated designs with a steel bollard barrier system. The Corps of Engineers’ Border District is providing contracting services, including design and construction oversight, of Department of Defense-funded Southwest border barrier projects in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas at the direction of the Administration and at the request of Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection.
