Capt. Ricks W. Polk, USN, commander, Maritime Prepositioning Ship Squadron One explains the capabilities of the USNS 2nd Lt. John P. Bobo, container & roll-on/roll-off ship, to Lt. Gen. Richard T. Tryon, deputy commandant for Plans, Policies, during a recent tour. The USNS Bobo is one of the more than 30 ships participating in BALTOPS-12 in Estonia by providing storage, transportation capability and the lighterage to ferry the equipment to the beach. The USNS Bobo was named to honor Marine Corps 2nd Lt. John P. Bobo a Medal of Honor recipient for actions while assigned as Weapons Platoon commander, Company I, Third Battalion, Ninth Marines, Third Marine Division, in Quang Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam, March 30, 1967. The USNS Bobo is currently assigned to Military Sealift Command's 6th Fleet-based Maritime Prepositioning Ship Squadron One. Due to fiscal constraints MPSRON-1 is going to be dissolved and the ships and personnel are going to be integrated into the MPSRON 2, 3.
