ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Soldiers of the Maryland National Guard’s 70th Regiment demonstrate the 3 Repetition Maximum Deadlift, in Annapolis, Md., January 26, 2020. The 110th Information Operations Battalion hosted the 70th Regiment Soldiers who provided the familiarization training on the new Army Combat Fitness Test. The MDL event represents movements required to safely and effectively lift heavy loads from the ground, jump, bound and tolerate landing. It requires well-conditioned back and leg muscles and helps Soldiers to avoid upper and lower back injuries caused by moving long distances under heavy load. The new ACFT is intended to improve Soldier physical readiness, transform the culture of Army fitness, reduce preventable injuries and attrition, enhance mental strength and stamina, and contribute to increased unit readiness.
