U.S. Marine Capt. Jarrod Rothman, company commander, Alpha Company, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, presents Navy Lt. Doug McKenzie, assistant engineer officer, USS North Carolina (SSN 777), a commemorative plaque at the conclusion of a joint training exercise at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, June 23. The reconnaissance Marines based in Okinawa, Japan, were provided a unique opportunity to train aboard a U.S. Navy Virginia class fast attack submarine. USS North Carolina is designed to seek and destroy enemy submarines and surface ships; project power ashore with Tomahawk cruise missiles and Special Operation Forces; carry out Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions; support battle group operations, and engage in mine warfare.
