Staff Sgt. Carl Council, a Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear specialist assigned to I Corps (Forward) at Camp Zama, Japan, looks at a photo taken in 2011 when Council, then a private first class, was mobilized to take part in Operation Tomodachi, a disaster relief operation conducted in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami, which struck 70 kilometers east of the Oshika Peninsula on March 11, 2011. In the photo, Council is seen picking up a poster of basketball legend Michael Jordan, which he said “must have belonged to a child.” (U.S. Army photo by Noriko Kudo)
