Col. German A. Alfaro, chief of staff of the Honduran army’s 105th Infantry Brigade, said having U.S. soldiers doing work in-person rather than simply sending money was an effective way of showing the people of Honduras and other Central American nations that the U.S. cares, July 3. The soldiers were in Honduras as part of U.S. Army South’s Beyond the Horizon exercise, which combines military training with humanitarian aid missions.
