James Handura, commander, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, looks on as representatives from the Corps and the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services sign a document transferring administration of the Porterville Developmental Center to the state of California April 21, 2020 in Porterville, California. For the last two weeks, USACE has been renovating the facility to make it suitable for use as an Alternate Care Facility to increase hospital space in the state due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The document signed by both parties indicates that renovations have been completed and the facility is ready for equipping and staffing by CalOES.
