U.S. Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 172 and 9th Engineer Support Battalion arrive and assess the landing strip on Ie Shima, Okinawa, Japan, February 19, 2020. Over the course of the next six months the Marines and Sailors with MWSS-172, 9th ESB and Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 5 will work to restore the old landing strip and redesign the old Vertical Take-Off and Landing pads for the purpose of bringing the operational capabilities of the island up to full capacity.
