Col. Timothy J. McAteer (left), commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Butler Kendrick, senior enlisted advisor, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, attach streamers to the 2BCT colors July 11. The unit was awarded an army superior unit award for Operation Unified Response, and a meritorious unit commendation for Operation New Dawn. The following day, McAteer relinquished command of the Brigade to Col. Patrick J. Hynes. McAteer commanded 2BCT for more than two years. He deployed with the unit to Haiti in support of OUR in 2010 and to Iraq in 2011 in support of OND. A native of San Antonio, Texas, he will be taking part in a year-long Army fellowship at Yale University.
