Col. Timothy J. McAteer (left) is presented the Legion of Merit award by Brig. Gen. Charles Flynn, special assistant to the commanding general, United States Army Forces Command, prior to McAteer's change of command ceremony July 12. During the ceremony, McAteer relinquished command of 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, to Col. Patrick J. Hynes. McAteer commanded 2BCT for more than two years. He deployed with the unit to Haiti in support of Operation Unified Response in 2010 and to Iraq in 2011 in support of Operation New Dawn. A native of San Antonio, Texas, he will be taking part in a year-long Army fellowship at Yale University.
