FARALLON DE MEDINILLA (Sept. 27, 2020) Lance Cpl. Joshua Vanorsdale, a mortarman with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), fires an 81mm mortar in support of a Tactical Air Control Party (TACP), after inserting onto the island from amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). A TACP is a small group of Marines who specialize in incorporating air assets into the ground battlespace by coordinating for air strikes or other air assaults. America, flagship of Expeditionary Strike Group 7, along with the 31st MEU, is operating in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
