FARALLON DE MEDINILLA (Sept. 27, 2020) Joint Terminal Air Controllers (JTACs) with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) coordinate close air support after inserting onto the island from amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) for a Tactical Air Control Party (TACP). A TACP is a small group of Marines who specialize in incorporating air assets into the ground battlespace by coordinating for air strikes or other air assaults. America, flagship of Expeditionary Strike Group 7, along with the 31st MEU, is operating in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
