U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Kevin R. Smith, a fixed-wing aircraft airframe mechanic, awaits instruction from air crew on the ground during a pre-flight check aboard an F/A-18D Hornet from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 225 (VMFA(AW)) prior to take-off from Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, Sept. 12, in support of Valiant Shield 2012. Valiant Shield is an ongoing biennial joint-service exercise; this is the fourth iteration of the exercise series. The exercise lasts from Sept. 11 - 19, 2012.
