A 5-axis milling machine carves an F-35A Lightning II fighter jet rudder hinge from an aluminum bracket, April 22, 2021, in the 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron’s aircraft metals technology section, at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. Maintainers carve test hinges from aluminum brackets while calibrating the milling machine before crafting a real hinge from titanium. The 56th EMS provides safe and reliable aircraft, equipment, munitions and maintenance to ensure Luke AFB can continue to train the world’s greatest fighter pilots.
