U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command (RTC) Photo of the Week.
Each week we will post a picture from the U.S. Navy's only Boot Camp which highlights how we turn civilians into basically trained Sailors.
Recruits receive hands on training and instruction on the proper weapons handling protocols and firing stances for an M9 Beretta as part of weapons familiarization training at the Small Arms Marksmanship Trainer (SAMT)at RTC.
At SAMT, recruits are given the opportunity to disassemble, reassemble and perform a function check on an M9 Beretta. They are also taught how to properly handle the weapon as well as various firing stances and safety protocols. Ultimately, recruits fire a simulated version of the M9 and are given one on one instruction for ways to improve their performance before moving on to their live-fire training evolution.
All recruits must successfully complete SAMT on their journey to graduating boot camp and becoming a Sailor in the world’s finest Navy. More than 40,000 recruits train annually at the Navy's only boot camp. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Spencer Fling)
