U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command (RTC) Photo of the Week.
Each week we will post a picture from the U.S. Navy's only Boot Camp which highlights how we turn civilians into basically trained Sailors.
Recruits practice line-handling procedures inside the USS Marvin Shields recruit barracks as part of the hands-on learning curriculum at Recruit Training Command. During the training, recruits perform line handling, sea and anchor detail, and basic underway operations. They are also drilled, timed and tested to ensure they report to their first ship with a strong foundation of seamanship skills. Seamanship is one of the many foundational skills required of recruits on their journey to become a Sailor in the world's finest Navy. More than 40,000 recruits train annually at the Navy's only boot camp. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Spencer)
