Illinois National Guard troops thanked for work at River Grove Mass Vaccination Site

Officials from Cook County and the Cook County Department of Public Health honor members of the Illinois National Guard working at the COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Site at Triton College in River Grove, Illinois May 27. The site, which has administered approximately 60,000 vaccines, closed May 27. Maj. Gen. Rich Neely, of Springfield, the Adjutant General of Illinois and Commander of the Illinois National Guard and Command Sgt. Maj. Dena Ballowe, of Litchfield, Illinois, Senior Enlisted Leader, Illinois National Guard, visited the River Grove site to thank the members of the Illinois National Guard and civilian contractors during a “graduation ceremony” hosted by the Cook County Department of Public Health. The Soldiers working the site will be moved to other vaccine sites in the Chicagoland area. While at the site, Neely and Ballowe offered their thanks to members working the site and presented challenge coins recognizing ILNG members for their efforts. Neely told the troops the ILNG couldn’t work the COVID-19 mission without them, while Ballowe called the Soldiers and Airmen the real heroes in the fight against COVID-19. Since the first mass vaccination site opened Jan. 26, the sites where ILNG members assisted the local health departments have provided 1.75 million vaccinations to residents.
