Illinois National Guard troops thanked for work at River Grove Mass Vaccination Site

Command Sgt. Maj. Dena Ballowe, of Litchfield, Senior Enlisted Leader of the Illinois National Guard presents one of her challenge coins to Illinois Air National Guard Sgt. Garrett Mannon of Moline, Illinois, for his work at the COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Site at Triton College in River Grove, Illinois. After administering approximately 60,000 vaccinations, the site closed May 27. Maj. Gen. Rich Neely, of Springfield, the Adjutant General of Illinois and Commander of the Illinois National Guard and Ballowe visited the River Grove site to thank the members of the Illinois National Guard and civilian contractors during a “graduation ceremony” hosted by the Cook County Department of Public Health. The Airmen working the site will be moved to other vaccine sites in the Chicagoland area. While at the sites, Neely and Ballowe offered their thanks to members working the sites and presented challenge coins recognizing ILNG members for their efforts. Neely told the troops the ILNG couldn’t work the COVID-19 mission without them, while Ballowe called the Airmen the real heroes in the fight against COVID-19. Since the first mass vaccination site opened Jan. 26, the sites where ILNG members assisted the local health departments have provided 1.75 million vaccinations to residents.
