Army Staff Sgt. Megan Hobson, a military working dog handler stationed
in Vicenza, Italy, and her seven-year-old Military Working Dog Jalk,
patrol through K-9 Village, on the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Grounds
during the Inter-service Advanced Skills K-9 Course, Sept. 20. The
Richmond, Utah native and her partner took part in the three-week
course, which trains MWD teams for deployments to austere environments
such as Afghanistan, preparing them for the life-saving role they will
perform searching for improvised explosive devices and bomb making
materials. It's no secret the most prolific killer of troops in
Afghanistan is the IED, and the most valuable tool to defeat the IED
threat is arguably the MWD teams.
