U.S. Marine Corps 1st Sgt. Vitali Kholodov, a native of Bend, Ore., with 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division, helps offload boxes for redistribution in Port of Jeremie, Haiti, Aug. 31, 2021. “I have been in the Marine Corps for 17 years, but have never had the opportunity to support humanitarian relief efforts. It was an incredible experience,” Kholodov said. 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment is serving as the Marine entity under Joint Task Force- Haiti for the humanitarian relief efforts following the earthquake in Haiti. “I am here for the Marines. To see them come together and do something incredible for those who do not have much was a culminating moment for what we came here to do,” Kholodov said. The Marines and sailors aboard the USS Arlington (LPD 24) facilitated the redistribution of over 100 thousand pounds of humanitarian aid. “It was so satisfying to work along-side our naval counterparts and do something for the greater good, it reminded our team of what it means to help others and how fortunate we are to live in America. Even though there was a language barrier, it was evident that our efforts left an impact on all those involved.” (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Jacqueline C. Arre)
