U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Steven Fleming, a native of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and a forward air controller with 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division, helps offload boxes for redistribution with local volunteers in Port of Jeremie, Haiti, Aug. 31, 2021. “It is very rewarding to be here and offer support to those in need,” Fleming said. The Marines and sailors aboard the USS Arlington (LPD 24) have been serving in support of Joint Task Force-Haiti for a humanitarian assistance and disaster relief mission. “I am so proud of the commitment our Marines demonstrated today. Nearly two weeks ago, these Marines deployed with less than 12 hours notice to answer the nation’s call and serve as a force in readiness for the Joint Task Force. Today, we were able to put boots on the ground and work side-by-side with sailors and local volunteers to distribute aid to areas most impacted by the earthquake. There is truly no better friend than a United States Marine.” (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Jacqueline C. Arre)
