Joseph White, III Marine Expeditionary Force Field Service Representative for Water and Fuel Equipment, teaches U.S. Marines with Combat Logistics Battalion (CLB) 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), about the Portable Water Purification System (PWPS) during an engineering field exercise on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Sept. 24, 2021. CLB-31 is one of the first units in the Marine Corps to employ the PWPS in a field environment. Marines with CLB-31 conducted an engineering field exercise to maintain proficiency, demonstrate new engineer platoon concepts and capabilities, and explore disaggregated logistical operations as part of a wider 31st MEU initiative. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps' only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
