U.S. Marine Corps Col. Michael Nakonieczny, commanding officer of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), and Lt. Col. Stanley Calixte, commanding officer of Combat Logistics Battalion (CLB) 31, tour an engineer training site during an engineering field exercise on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Sept. 24, 2021. Marines with CLB-31 conducted an engineering field exercise to maintain proficiency, demonstrate new engineer platoon concepts and capabilities, and explore disaggregated logistical operations as part of a wider 31st MEU initiative. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps' only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
