Harold Stephens, a World War II veteran, receives a lei from a student during a visit to Mokapu Elementary School, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Dec. 6, 2021. The visit was coordinated by the Best Defense Foundation in order to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Stephens was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943, arrived in France four days after D-Day, and went on to fight in the Battle of the Bulge as a corporal technician in communications, eventually being discharged from service on November 6, 1945.
