Operation Allies Welcome - Operation Allies Refuge

U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Devinderpal Bans, a field radio operator with Headquarters Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, assembles a GCS-2180 Cheetah VSAT, with U.S. Army soldiers from the 62nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion, on Fort Pickett, Virginia, Dec. 15, 2021. Reserve Marines, while supporting Operation Allies Welcome, are cross-training with other services to increase proficiency so they can better augment and reinforce the Active Component. The Department of Defense, through the U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. James Stanfield)
