Fort Pickett, Va. (Dec. 21, 2021) Afghan evacuess feast on traditional fare at a Shab-e Yalda festivel. Shab-e Yalda is a traditional winter solstice festival marking both the longest night of the year and the first of the 40 days of winter. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
