The Great Blue Heron is one of the largest Herons on the North American Continent. The birds live in saltwater and freshwater habitats and have a long neck and a sharp bill. The state park, which is not a part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) South Florida Ecosystem Program, provides vital habitat. USACE and its partners work to improve the quantity, quality, timing and distribution of water throughout South Florida. It is representative of the work being done by federal and state agencies to restore and manage the South Florida ecosystem for wildlife conservation and safe habitat.
