U.S. Marines and Navy Hospitalman 3rd Class Edgar Gonzalezgomez, a corpsman with Battalion Landing Team (BLT) 1/5, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) tend to a simulated casualty during an embassy reinforcement exercise, in Naha Port, Okinawa, Japan, Feb. 9, 2022. BLT 1/5, 31st MEU conducted a relief in place and transfer of authority with a FAST platoon to secure a simulated U.S. Embassy and assisted in the collection and processing of U.S. citizens during a non-combatant evacuation operation. The 31st MEU is operating aboard the ships of the America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response to defend peace and stability in the Indo–Pacific Region.
