U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Conor Downs, Cherokee company commander with Battalion Landing Team 1/5, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), speaks during a rehearsal of concept walk aboard USS Green Bay (LPD 20), in the Philippine Sea, Feb. 9, 2022. Battalion Landing Team 1/5, 31st MEU conducted a relief in place and transfer of authority with a Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team platoon to secure a simulated U.S. Embassy and assisted in the collection and processing of U.S. citizens during a non-combatant evacuation operation. The 31st MEU is operating aboard the ships of the America Expeditionary Strike Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific Region.
