U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Miles Snelgrove and Capt. Martin Austing, company commander and executive officer of Apache company, respectively, Battalion Landing Team 1/5 (BLT), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), observe a live-fire deck shoot on the USS Ashland (LSD 48) in the Philippine Sea, Mar. 5, 2022. BLT 1/5 conducted a deck shoot to maintain maritime proficiency and readiness. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the America Amphibious Strike Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners, and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
