A U.S. Army Japan Expert Soldier Badge cadre with 25th Infantry Division out of Hawaii instructs an ESB candidate on the correct application of a needle chest decompression during the medical lane portion of the first-ever USARJ ESB competition training week, where soldiers refine medical tactics and procedures at Sagami General Depot, Japan April 13.
The grueling competition is spread out over two weeks including a week of candidate training and a week of testing which are designed to identify the most knowledgeable and competent experts in warrior tasks and drills. Training and testing are tough, realistic, and mission-focused.
Soldier combat readiness demonstrates deterrence and response capabilities. Only those who meet the standards by demonstrating combat readiness and proficiency skills will be awarded the coveted ESB.
