With a focus on tourism and environmental sustainability, USAID has made substantial impact along the Red Sea coast, assisting in infrastructure development and job creation to support economic growth for Egyptian residents.
Enjoying the wonders of the Red Sea coast, U.S. Ambassador Jonathan R. Cohen and USAID Mission Director Leslie Reed toured the Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conservation Association (HEPCA) complex in Marsa Alam in February 2022.
Since the 1990s, USAID and HEPCA have partnered to protect Egypt’s natural resources and educate Egyptians and tourists on the importance of environmental conservation efforts. This included training HEPCA staff and board members in fundraising and negotiations, organizing environmental awareness seminars, and clean-up campaigns.
