An engineer assigned to the 526th Engineer Construction Company based out of Fort Stewart, Ga., cuts a hole through a large block of wood blocking the entrance to a subway station where simulated casualties are trapped after a nuclear explosion May 9, 2022, at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, Ind. The scene is part of a multicomponent homeland emergency exercise named Guardian Response 22. The exercise, hosted at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Area, Ind., is designed to boost capabilities, hone their skills at urban search and rescue, and improve readiness of the Army units assigned to the Department of Defense’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Response Enterprise.
