Master Chief Petty Officer Robert B. Banuelos, the 1st Marine Division command master chief, observes as Cmdr. Edward S. Pease, a chaplain with 1st Marine Division, and Seaman Cory Manka, a student at the Combat Trauma Management course at the 1st Marine Division Surgeon’s Office, cut a cake during a ceremony for the 237th birthday of the U.S. Navy here, Oct. 12, 2012. Pease, the oldest sailor in the division and a 57-year-old native of Atlanta, received the first slice of cake and presented the second slice to Manka, the division’s youngest sailor and a 19-year-old native of East Hampton, Conn. The U.S. Navy was created on Oct. 13, 1775, by an act of the Continental Congress in Philadelphia.
