Yvette Bourcicot, Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army (Manpower and Reserve Affairs), provides opening remarks during a street renaming ceremony at Fort Hamilton, N.Y., May 20, 2022. The ceremony officially removed Confederate Civil War General Robert E. Lee’s name from the main avenue and renamed it John Warren Avenue in honor of U.S. Army 1st Lt. John E. Warren, Jr., who was a Brooklyn native, Vietnam War veteran, and Medal of Honor recipient. Our military assets are designed to commemorate and reflect the courage, valor and rich diversity of our military heroes. Those examples are clearly evident in the personal stories and backgrounds associated with the selected name. (U.S. Army photo by Pfc. Donald Franklin)
