    Coast Guard Lt. j.g. Joseph Neff, command duty officer, Eight Coast Guard District headquartered in New Orleans, participates in the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center (AFRCC) Basic Inland Search and Rescue Course held at the Gulf Coast State College, Bay County Emergency Management Center May 26-27, 2022. Neff attempts to locate a simulated lost civilian traveler using clues such as radar and cell phone forensics, distress beacon transmissions, witness reports, aircraft fuel quantities, weather conditions, flight plan filings and documented typical human behavior while under stress, during the culmination exercise the last day of the course. The AFRCC is located at First Air Force – Air Forces Northern, Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week as the United States' inland search and rescue coordinator. AFRCC serves as the single agency responsible for coordinating on-land federal SAR activities in the 48 contiguous United States, Mexico and Canada.
