Spc. David Belmontes, a 29-year-old truck driver from Brownsville, Texas and Spc. Elliot Cervera, a 25-year-old forward observer from Bridgeport, Conn., both from 1st Squadron, 33rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, work as a team to treat a simulated casualty Oct. 11 at Fort Campbell, Ky. while conducting the trauma lane portion of a combat life-saver class. This type of training teaches non-medical personnel to apply treatment to their battle buddies in combat situations when medics are not present, which greatly improves the chances of survival.
