Elliot Cervera, a 25-year-old forward observer from Bridgeport, Conn., both from 1st Squadron, 33rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, prepare a simulated casualty for medical evacuation while conducting the trauma lane portion of a combat life-saver class Oct. 11 at Fort Campbell, Ky. This type of training teaches non-medical personnel to apply treatment to their battle buddies in combat situations when medics are not present, which greatly improves the chances of survival.
