Matthew Small, an Unexploded Ordinance Quality Assurance Representative with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Japan Engineer District, stands at the mouth of a cave that was heavily used by the Japanese Imperial Army during the Battle of Okinawa. The cave is believed to house the remains of missing Marines Pfc. John Quinn, Jr. or Pfc. John Hartman, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 29th Marine Regiment, along with an unknown number of Japanese Soldiers lost during assault.
