Oregon Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Kayla Smith, Survey Team Chief, 102nd Weapons of Mass Destruction - Civil Support Team, Oregon National Guard, surveys the grounds of the World Track and Field Championships, University of Oregon, in Eugene, Ore., on July 16, 2022, for any hazards, including Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) materials. Smith is a member of a Joint Hazard Assessment Team (JHAT), which is comprised of members from local, state and federal agencies including police, fire and tactical K-9 services. The JHAT regularly patrolled the grounds to conduct sweeps and evaluate any potential threats in order to help ensure the safety of the participants and observers at the Championships. The World Championships were held July 15-24 and it was the first time the event has been held in the United States.
