Justin Kerwin, senior park ranger, unhitches the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer – Alaska District’s patrol boat at the Chena River Lakes Flood Control Project in North Pole, Alaska. The operations team at the project uses the vessel to patrol the waterway to promote public safety and federal regulation compliance. The Chena Project protects downtown Fairbanks from flooding and offers numerous recreational opportunities including hunting, hiking, fishing, horseback and walking trails, paved bike paths and wildlife viewing.
